Spiritual Environment At Work

Catholics have a sacramental view of the world. We see God everywhere and in  everyone!  Tangible expressions of our faith can help create a space where we are reminded of our baptismal call to live as disciples of Jesus in community with others. What can you bring to your environment at work to call to mind the sacred?

  • If you use a computer at work, use scripture passages or inspirational photographs as your wallpaper.
  • If you can play music at work, consider the message that your music choice sends to others.
  • Incorporate nature into your workspace as much as possible, as a reminder of the gift of creation and our role as co-creators in the world.
  • Carry a small item of significance to your faith with you always.
  •  Enter important dates into your calendar, like the anniversary of your baptism or the feast day for the saint you chose for your confirmation name.   Celebrate them with a special treat or a special prayer!

sacramental

Since God created all things to show and communicate God’s glory (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 293), we can experience God through our relationship with creation and each other. This influences the way we view the world. This understanding of “sacramental” is different than the more technical understanding of “sacramentals.” For more information on “sacramentals” go to the Daughters of St. Paul’s website: http://www.daughtersofstpaul.com/growinginfaith/basicqas/sacraments/sacramentals146.html

baptismal call

As disciples baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we have been brought into the life of the Church and the continuation of the mission of Jesus Christ.  Each person lives out their call in specific ways based on their gifts and life circumstances.  (back to secton)

the gift of creation

God gave humanity the gift and the  responsibility for the care of all of creation(Genesis 1:28 – 30).  We cooperate with God to accomplish such a great responsibility. How do you live out your care of creation? (back to section)
